is a free opensource software to use for Electronic Design
Automation.
KiCad
has 5 main sections
- KiCad – the project manager.
- Eeschema – the schematic editor.
- Pcbnew – the PCB layout designer. It includes 3D view also.
- GerbView – the Gerber file viewer.
- Bitmap2Component – tool to convert images to footprints for PCB artwork
So, in this article I will share my experience KiCad install in Ubuntu 18.04
Steps:
open the terminal and first run sudo add-apt-repository –yes ppa:js-reynaud/kicad-5
Then type and run sudo apt update
Then run sudo apt install kicad
After following dialog box appears press Y and wait.
After installation when you open KiCad it looks like this
